Automotive Technology

Geared for Success: Hands-On Meets High-Tech

Grease Monkey. Gearhead. Torque Dork. We’ve heard them all… and they’re terms that we’re proud to self-apply, as automotive enthusiasts and professionals.

These days, though, you can add one more colorful nickname to the list: “Computer Geek.”

That’s because today’s Automotive Technology programs are as much about software and systems as they are about pistons and powertrains. Working on today’s high-tech vehicles requires a unique blend of manual dexterity and tech-savvy. Shifts toward computerized systems, alternative fuel, and other cutting-edge technologies in the automotive industry have created new demand for college-educated professionals with versatile knowledge and skills.

The Automotive Technology program at Golden West College provides students with the opportunity to successfully prepare for careers in the automotive service industry, as entry-level technicians or in other related occupations. For technicians presently working in the field, GWC offers advanced coursework to meet state licensing requirements, or to facilitate opportunities for promotion and advancement.

GWC’s Automotive Technology program is certified by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), signifying that all curriculum and instruction aligns with NATEF standards.
